These posts showcase the actual award winning 1959 Chevrolet Corvette up for raffle. You’ll see feature magazine articles and get a glimpse into the 4 year intensive restoration and RHD conversion since its purchase in 2005.
EVERY NUT AND BOLT:
This extensive restoration project progressed piece by piece over four years in Illinois USA by SRIII Motorsports. Every panel was removed and restored – access to all areas. In the process of converting to RHD, parts of the car were exposed that would not ordinarily be seen.
UNDER THE HOOD:
When you look under the hood, past the massive cool air intake, chrome work and custom engine cover, you’ll see a smooth firewall… you won’t see a battery, solenoids or wiring. Aficionados may notice the manually operated air vent is missing…. it’s been replaced by cool air conditioning. They may point out the fuel filler is gone… along with the fumes – read on to find out why, where and how.
For the perfectionists… “The steering wheel’s on the wrong side of the car” you say? Technically, the wheel is on the ‘Right’ side of the car. For those more used to shifting with your right hand, be careful you don’t open the door instead – no problem for Aussies though.
When you put your foot flat to the floor and feel yourself pressed against the seat unwinding out of a corner, you’ll know that the car is there for you. From it’s 3-dimensional frame, to the powerful 400hp LS2 V8, this car is built to impress.
